Major Areas of Research

The aim of research works in our laboratory is “the optimization of drug delivery” and the research projects are going on for the development of dosage forms to improve both efficacy and safety of drugs. The projects can be roughly divided into two research categories.

  1. Pharmacokinetic analysis of drug disposition and metabolism in the body
  2. Development of novel drug delivery system

The two categories above are closely related each other, and the research works on [2] can be carried out based on the results of research works on [1].

On-going research projects

  1. Improvement of absorption behavior of poorly water-soluble drugs by self-microemulsifying drug delivery system (SMEDDS);
  2. Prediction and analysis of oral absorption kinetics of poorly water-soluble drugs based on gastrointestinal-transit-absorption model (GITA model);
  3. Evaluation of substantial contribution of PepT1 to oral absorption of cephalexin;
  4. Clarification of mechanisms by which enteric nervous system (ENS) regulates the intestinal absorption of drugs;
  5. Development of novel formulation to enhance drug absorption with low mucosal damage;
  6. Evaluation of substantial contribution of P-glycoprotein (P-gp) and Cytochrome P450 3A to first pass elimination of drugs after oral administration;
  7. Development and evaluation of M cell like co-cultured system with Caco-2 and Raji B cells;
  8. Development of novel liposomal preparations by modifying the surface of liposome for cancer chemotherapy;
  9. Strategic cancer chemotherapy by inhibiting angiogenesis in and around tumor tissues;
  10. Predicting system for drug absorption after nasal administration
