The direction of research projects in Pharmaceutical Formulation Design
Laboratory is focused on “optimization of drug therapy”. The projects can
be roughly divided into two research categories. The optimized pharmacotherapy
will be based on both the development of well-designed pharmaceutics (Drug
Delivery System, DDS) and the precise application of these pharmaceutics
to individual patient to guarantee the efficacy and the safety. Thus we
have been investigating the following research themes from the viewpoints
of physical and biological pharmaceutics together with theoretical pharmacokinetics.
1. Focal Pharmacokinetic Studies
(a) Evaluation of dynamic diffusion process of drugs and their focal availabilities by the monitoring of unbound drug concentrations using microdialysis
(b) Construction of a proper pharmacokinetic model expressing the diffusion and clearance processes in the muscle
(c) Evaluation of dynamic diffusion process of drugs in muscle and the factors affecting topical pharmacokinetics
2. Development of new therapeutic devices to optimize and to endorse rational pahrmacotherapy
(d) Development of new dermal dressing prepared with hydro-gel sheet
> Application of new hydro-gel sheet as a dressing to moisture-retaining wounds
> Application of hydro-gel sheet as new type dermaldosage form
(e) Kinetic assessment of peritoneal dialysis for pharmacokinetics and the application of controlled release concept to peritoneal drug dosing to improve the efficacy (and safety)
> Pharmacokinetics of drugs under peritoneal dialysis
> Peritoneal dialysis as a new dosage route of drugs: Formulation and pharmacokinetics
3. Rational pharmaceutical development of medicines for animals
